Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple intelligences suggests that there are 7 different styles of learning or intelligences, logical mathematical, spatial, linguistic, bodily kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalistic. He believes we each learn best when our natural learning style is being addressed. As much as possible in our classroom we try to address these different learning styles in order to best cater for your child. An example of this is in our class spelling program. We look at the words, say them, read them and write them. After this we make our words using a variety of different materials, including play doh , pipe cleaners, smelly pencils etc. In this simple activity we appeal to the students who learn best from writing, reading , saying, and making the words. We are also helping the children build their fine motor skills. Students can choose to make the words while talking a partner or or their own depending on their personal preference.

Each days lessons are designed to reach as many different learning styles as possible from our reading groups to our igloo construction we are working hard to meet your child’s optimum learning style.  If you have any questions about your child’s learning style and how we address this in the classroom please feel free to ask us.
